About the event

How in the world did these dunes of sand end up in Maine?

Join children's author Lena Champlin in the Tuttle Barn for a special reading of her book, "The Sands of Time," a geological tale of the Desert of Maine told through the eyes of Pierre, a French-Canadian grain of sand! Pierre's journey includes glaciers, the sea floor, the last ice age, the Civil War, and the forest's ongoing recovery—all without leaving Freeport.

Arrive between 2-3pm to join us for a free book reading, cookies and lemonade, and a coloring activity. Purchase your own copy of "The Sands of Time" to take home and get it signed by the author!

Register in advance for this free event  to receive complimentary Desert of Maine admission for the afternoon.
